CA2M: A Polyphonic Museum of Contemporary Art
The Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M) in Móstoles, inaugurated in 2008, has firmly established itself as a pivotal institution in the contemporary art scene. Its strategic peripheral location in the south of the Community of Madrid is considered one of its greatest assets, fostering the construction of imaginative geographies.
This public museum, operating with a flexible institutional structure, safeguards the contemporary art collections of both the Community of Madrid and the ARCO Foundation. Its mission revolves around exploring the diverse potentials of contemporary practice through artistic production, exhibitions, critical thought, research, and the conservation of its holdings. CA2M is designed to cultivate dialogues that push the boundaries of institutional norms through its exhibitions and activities, which are anchored in "politics of affections." It navigates conceptually between Alexander Dorner's notion of a "powerhouse" – an ever-operating electric hub – and Pontús Hultén's vision of an experiential body of radical imagination.
This upcoming lecture forms part of the "Other Museums, Other Perspectives" series, an initiative that invites leaders from various museums to share their experiences, histories, and expertise in the management and direction of the institutions they have led.
Speaker: Tania Pardo
The lecture will be delivered by Tania Pardo, an accomplished art historian, curator, and researcher. She currently holds the position of director at the CA2M Museum, having previously served as its deputy director from 2013 to 2019. Her distinguished career also includes roles as an advisor for Plastic Arts for the Community of Madrid (2019-2023), Head of Exhibitions at La Casa Encendida (2015-2019), and Director of Projects at the Fundación Santander 2016 (2009-2010). Furthermore, she was a key member of the MUSAC (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León) team from 2003 to 2009 and taught Art History at the Complutense University of Madrid between 2014 and 2019.
