FAR RESIDENCY: An Artistic Retreat for Global Creators
What is FAR RESIDENCY?
FAR RESIDENCY is an artist-led program specifically designed to foster the personal and professional growth of selected creators. It offers a unique opportunity by providing dedicated time and a peaceful environment, free from urban distractions, allowing artists to immerse themselves fully in their practice and deepen their artistic exploration.
Who is Behind It?
The vision and initial impetus for FAR RESIDENCY come from Sabek. Inés Alonso Jarabo will coordinate the program, establishing a curatorial framework to guide participants in their research, helping them expand the scope of their artistic practice and theoretical discourse.
Who Can Apply?
The residency welcomes international artists, encompassing both emerging talents and established professionals, who demonstrate a strong commitment to artistic research and production. It seeks creators who value periods of intense focus, deep concentration, and a dedicated retreat—qualities that are increasingly vital in today’s fast-paced world—to enrich and broaden their professional dialogue.
Where Do the Residencies Take Place?
The residencies are hosted at La Serna del Rey, a historic 16th-century dehesa (traditional Iberian pastureland) located in the picturesque province of Ávila, Spain. This serene rural setting provides visual artists, sculptors, and painters with an ideal space for both creative work and restorative contemplation. Participants will be joined by fellow artists and a dedicated team of art professionals who will offer curatorial support, tailored to individual needs and curiosities, thereby promoting focused research and development. The natural landscape, local climate, and the absence of urban stimuli are integral to shaping the rhythms of work and daily life.
How Long Do They Last?
Each residency period is structured to last fifteen days.
How to Apply?
Applications for the residency can be submitted directly through the official FAR RESIDENCY website.
When is the Deadline for the First Call?
The submission deadline for the inaugural call for applications is April 15, 2026.
How Many Artists Will Be Selected?
An expert jury will carefully select twelve participants for the program. This distinguished jury comprises influential art professionals from various sectors, including confirmed members such as Victoria Rivers, Sara Coriat, and Clara Andrade Pereira.
Where Will Participants Exhibit Their Work?
The projects and processes developed during each residency period will culminate in an exhibition held at La Cristalería, a vibrant creative space situated in Madrid's Chamberí neighborhood. Importantly, the program places greater emphasis on the journey of artistic investigation and development rather than solely on the final exhibition outcomes.
What Other Benefits Does FAR RESIDENCY Offer?
FAR RESIDENCY is committed to producing comprehensive documentation and creating editorial content throughout each residency period. These elements are not considered mere additions but rather an integral extension of the program itself. They are designed to assist artists in reflecting upon, meticulously recording, and effectively projecting the profound significance of their residency experience, thus imbuing their stay with deeper meaning and lasting impact.
