El Museo del Prado ha anunciado que la reconocida escritora franco-marroquí Leïla Slimani será la próxima autora en participar en su programa "Escribir el Prado". Esta iniciativa, que invita a figuras literarias de prestigio internacional a inspirarse en las colecciones y la historia de la pinacoteca, cuenta con el patrocinio de Fundación LOEWE y el apoyo de Granta en español.

Lanzado en 2023, el programa ha contado ya con la participación de destacados autores como John Coetzee, Chloe Aridjis, Olga Tokarczuk, John Banville, Helen Oyeyemi y Mathias Énard. Slimani, ganadora del Premio Goncourt en 2016 por su novela Canción dulce (Chanson douce), comenzará su residencia en Madrid el 19 de abril. Durante su estancia, tendrá acceso privilegiado a las salas de exposición, los talleres de restauración, los laboratorios y almacenes del museo, así como interacción directa con los equipos de conservación e investigación. Fruto de esta experiencia, desarrollará un texto inédito que se publicará en una edición bilingüe, en español e inglés.

Además, la autora de En el jardín del ogro (Dans le jardin de l'ogre) ofrecerá un coloquio abierto al público el próximo 5 de mayo, como parte de su residencia.

Nacida en Rabat en 1981, Slimani estudió en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos de París (Sciences Po) y en la Escuela Superior de Comercio. Antes de dedicarse plenamente a la literatura, ejerció como periodista para L’Express y Jeune Afrique. Entre sus obras figuran Sexo y mentiras (2017), El perfume de las flores de noche (2021) y la exitosa trilogía El país de los otros, cuya última entrega fue Me llevaré el fuego (publicada en español por Cabaret Voltaire). Estos trabajos le valieron en España el Premio de los Libreros de Madrid 2021 y el Premi Llibreter 2021. Sin embargo, su relato más conocido es Chanson douce (Canción dulce), galardonado con el Premio Goncourt por su amplitud temática y su capacidad para interrogar de forma incisiva asuntos de calado social.

El propósito fundamental de "Escribir el Prado" es fomentar un diálogo sostenido entre la literatura y las artes plásticas, en consonancia con la estrategia del museo de abrir lecturas contemporáneas y novedosas de su vasto patrimonio cultural.

Leïla Slimani: Another Goncourt Laureate to Write for the Prado

The Museo del Prado has announced that the acclaimed French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani will be the next author to join its "Writing the Prado" program. This initiative invites internationally prestigious literary figures to draw inspiration from the museum's collections and history, and is sponsored by Fundación LOEWE with the support of Granta en español.

Launched in 2023, the program has already featured prominent authors such as John Coetzee, Chloe Aridjis, Olga Tokarczuk, John Banville, Helen Oyeyemi, and Mathias Énard. Slimani, a 2016 Goncourt Prize winner for her novel Lullaby (Chanson douce), will begin her residency in Madrid on April 19th. During her stay, she will have privileged access to the museum's exhibition halls, restoration workshops, laboratories, and storage facilities, as well as direct interaction with the conservation and research teams. The result of this experience will be an original, unpublished text, set to be released in a bilingual edition (Spanish and English).

Furthermore, the author of In the Garden of the Ogre (Dans le jardin de l'ogre) will host a public talk on May 5th, as part of her residency.
