Fundación Montemadrid announces a new edition of “Generaciones” (Generations), an annual project since 2000 that showcases the diverse creative channels of young artists residing in Spain.

This initiative aims to foster and provide artists with essential tools for the production and dissemination of their work. Its primary objective is to offer a dedicated platform for contemporary art, displaying the creations of young talents and promoting these artistic proposals among specialized critics and the general public. Fundación Montemadrid enables artists under 35 years old to develop comprehensive projects, which may not be fully finalized, allowing jurors to focus on the creative processes and potential.

The outcome is an exhibition featuring the six winning works of “Generación 2027,” which will be presented in the first quarter of next year at La Casa Encendida, with the possibility of the exhibition becoming itinerant.

Eligibility

The call is open to all artists who are 18 years or older, Spanish nationals or foreign residents in Spain, and 35 years old or younger on the application closing date. For collective projects, all members must meet the eligibility criteria, including the age limit. A representative must be appointed for communication with the organization and to confirm the prize distribution among the group.

The following individuals are ineligible to participate:

  • Artists who have received awards in previous editions of “Generaciones.”
  • Employees, directors, collaborators, or staff of any entities associated with the organization of the call.
  • Any other individual directly or indirectly involved in the preparation of this call.

Project Requirements

Each participant must submit an original, unpublished work (finished or unfinished) in any artistic, plastic, or visual manifestation. The project awarded by the jury must be identical to the work presented in the exhibition.

The deadline for the complete finalization of the work is December 2026. If the submitted project is already finished, it must not have been previously exhibited, nor can it be until the inauguration of the “Generación 2027” exhibition.

Works that are ineligible include:

  • Those with exploitation rights compromised in a way that limits participation or the planned assignment of rights to Fundación Montemadrid.
  • Projects simultaneously awarded in another competition (participants must choose one award).
  • Works that have received awards in other national or international contests.
  • Works that are not unpublished.
  • Projects that are or will be funded by another institution.

Works failing to meet these conditions will be disqualified by the jury and will not be eligible for any prize or mention.

If Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used or intended for the work, the participant must indicate this clearly in the project summary, specifying the technology employed or to be employed and its degree of impact on the final result.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online via www.lacasaencendida.es. Applicants must complete an online form and attach the following documentation:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • PDF copy of DNI/NIE/Passport and residence card for each participant.
  • Project summary (maximum 1500 characters, including spaces).
  • Project dossier, including graphic material of any produced artistic/visual components, and drawings, diagrams, or illustrations for unproduced parts, as specified on the website.
  • Any other documents providing additional information about the project.

Previous works may also be submitted. The organization accepts all types of visual works without artistic or technical limitations.

Application Deadline

The call for applications opens on January 29 and closes on March 24, 2026, at 12:00 PM (noon) GMT+1.

Awards and Funding

Up to six artistic projects will be selected. Each selected artist will receive a total award of 12,000 euros, comprising 10,000 euros for production costs and 2,000 euros for fees, subject to current tax legislation upon presentation of an invoice. The jury reserves the right to declare all or part of the awards void due to quality considerations.

Fundación Montemadrid will cover the exhibition mounting costs for selected works. The complete production of the submitted proposal, including framing, remains the artist’s responsibility. Transportation costs for the exhibition works will be limited to the institution’s budget. Should other works by the artist, distinct from the submitted project, be exhibited at La Casa Encendida, the artist will be responsible for their transport. Travel and accommodation expenses for artists during the preliminary phase, if necessary, are borne by the artist. Once awarded, the prize is non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and cannot be altered or compensated at the participants’ request, nor can it be redeemed for other products or cash.

Ownership of Awarded Works

Winning works will become part of the Fundación Montemadrid collection. The artist, as the copyright holder, irrevocably transfers ownership of the awarded work to Fundación Montemadrid.

  • For works with a physical medium, this transfer of ownership includes the material object representing the work.
  • For digital works, the artist commits to delivering the original, complete, highest-quality file(s) representing the digital work as conceived, to Fundación Montemadrid.

The transfer of ownership is considered compensated by the financial awards granted to the artist, which include fees and a contribution for the work’s production. Specific details of the transfer will be formalized in a subsequent agreement between both parties.

Furthermore, the artist exclusively grants Fundación Montemadrid all economic exploitation rights over the work, including rights of reproduction, distribution, public communication, transformation, and any other form of exploitation recognized by current legislation. This assignment is irrevocable, worldwide, and for an indefinite period, and includes the right to assign or sublicense to third parties, allowing the Foundation to manage these rights and authorize their exercise by other entities or individuals.

The purpose of this transfer and assignment is to enable Fundación Montemadrid to preserve, exhibit, promote, disseminate, and lawfully exploit the work, both in physical and digital formats, without additional remuneration beyond that stipulated in this call.
