Bahn Added a Stop After Mayors' Complaint Between Mühldorf and Munich

The train schedule for the Mühldorf-Munich route is being reduced. Affected mayors protested – and then something astonishing happened.

Deutsche Bahn has reinstated the morning Regional Express stop in Dorfen at 6:49 AM, a change that was recently removed. This adjustment comes after mayors from 17 municipalities along the Mühldorf-Munich line sent a strongly worded letter to the rail operator. They expressed their frustration with significant disruptions to commuter services and demanded immediate, creative solutions, stating, "The patience of our communities' rail customers, your customers, is at an end."

While the overall revised timetable for the line, aimed at improving "stability" on the often-unreliable route, remains in place, the railway company has partially integrated one of the mayors' requests. The morning stop in Dorfen will be tested for its feasibility and will be visible in the schedule only three days in advance due to the need for rapid implementation. Deutsche Bahn indicated that a permanent schedule change would require several weeks of planning.

Passengers might need to anticipate schedule disruptions on other Bavarian rail lines as well. Between Murnau and Oberammergau, track closures continue with no estimated end date for repairs. Services on the RB 81 route between Neustadt an der Aisch and Steinach are running with reduced speeds and expected delays. Additionally, construction between Buchloe and Munich from October 5th to 12th will cancel trains on lines RB 74 and RE 70.

Plattling is now accessible by train again from Munich and Landshut with the RE 3 operating hourly. However, repairs are causing ongoing disruptions. Passau remains inaccessible by rail due to corridor track renovation, currently in its third and final phase, scheduled to conclude on December 12th. This date also marks the end of a longer construction period on the Mühldorf-Munich line, where Deutsche Bahn aims to eliminate slow-speed sections by December 23rd. No further stops, such as in Ampfing, are planned for the morning Regional Express, as they could jeopardize the stability and punctuality improvements achieved.
