“Inside and Outside the Frame” is the title of an engaging dialogue scheduled to take place at the prestigious Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, featuring artist Irma Álvarez-Laviada (Gijón, 1978) and curator Rocío de la Villa. This special event is organized in conjunction with Álvarez-Laviada’s current exhibition and forms a key part of “Kora,” the museum’s annual program dedicated to enhancing the visibility of women artists residing in Spain, examined through a gender perspective.
The conversation will explore the creative process behind this exhibition project and delve into the unique artistic dynamics that define Álvarez-Laviada’s work. Her creations are notably positioned in an intermediate conceptual space, which the artist describes as “inside and outside the frame.” She frequently incorporates industrial materials, originally intended for practical uses, into her art. Through this distinctive approach, Álvarez-Laviada’s work encourages a profound contemplation of the inclusions and exclusions within the tradition of modern Western art.
