The Centro de Arte La Regenta is pleased to announce its International Artist Residency Program for 2026, designed to foster contemporary artistic creation, encourage dialogue among artists from diverse backgrounds, and support artistic processes as vital spaces for research, reflection, and debate.

This program offers one artist the opportunity to develop a specific artistic project and subsequently present an exhibition in one of La Regenta’s dedicated spaces. Both the project and the exhibition must revolve around the central themes of city, community, territory, and context.

Eligibility Requirements:

Artists of any discipline or nationality who wish to engage in contemporary art at the Centro de Arte La Regenta are invited to apply, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the application deadline.
  • Reside outside the island of Gran Canaria.
  • Possess basic knowledge of Spanish.
  • Comply with all legal, fiscal, and tax obligations, and not be subject to any prohibitions for contracting as stipulated in Article 71 of Law 9/2017 on Public Sector Contracts, nor have outstanding justifications or be involved in reimbursement processes related to previous contracts with the Canary Islands Government’s General Directorate of Culture or the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development, S.A.

Residency and Exhibition Duration:

  • Residency Period: May 11 to July 6, 2026.
  • Exhibition Dates: July 3 to September 5, 2026.

The final exhibition will be held in the “Espacio Otros Formatos” gallery within the Centro de Arte La Regenta.

Application Process:

Applications must be submitted online via the Centro de Arte La Regenta website. Each artist may submit only one individual project proposal.

Required documentation, in PDF format (maximum 10 MB total, 20 pages maximum), includes:

  • General Documentation:
    • Applicant’s identification details (name, surname, date of birth, email, phone) accompanied by a photocopy of a valid ID (passport, national ID, etc.).
    • Curriculum vitae (maximum 500 words), including any relevant art education or certifications.
  • Specific Documentation:
    • A detailed project proposal (minimum 800 words, maximum 1200 words).
    • Visual materials such as sketches or other supporting images to illustrate the project (maximum 8 images).
    • A sworn declaration stating that the project is original and has not been previously exhibited, awarded a grant, or received funding.
    • A timeline or work plan for the proposed project.

Application Deadline:

All applications must be submitted by April 10, 2026.

Financial and Material Support:

The Centro de Arte La Regenta will provide the selected artist with the following financial and material support:

  • Financial Support (Gross Amounts):
    • €1,800 for artist fees.
    • €1,000 for living expenses.
    • Up to €400 for travel expenses (one round trip, managed by the institution).
    • €1,000 for project production costs (managed by the institution).

    Payments for fees and living expenses will be made via bank transfer, subject to required tax documentation and invoices, with applicable tax withholdings. Justification for these amounts will be through a final project report.

  • Material and Professional Support:
    • A 25-square-meter studio space within the Centro de Arte La Regenta, equipped with basic furniture, internet access, lighting, and electricity.
    • Accommodation including a bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom.
    • Access to the Center’s Documentation Archive.
    • Conceptual guidance during project development and assistance in connecting with local agents and collectives, upon request.

Selection Criteria:

An evaluation committee will review all submitted proposals based on the following criteria:

  • Originality, quality, and creativity of the project (30%).
  • Coherence with the themes of city, community, territory, and context (40%).
  • Feasibility and suitability of the project within the given context (20%).
  • Professional and artistic trajectory of the applicant (10%).

The committee will select one primary project and two alternate projects. The committee’s decision is final, and it reserves the right to address unforeseen circumstances or declare the selection void.
