The Museo Nacional del Prado has issued a call for applications to select 25 General Services Assistants (Room Surveillance). Seventeen positions are offered as permanent staff, and twelve as permanent intermittent staff.
Additionally, a recruitment pool of up to 250 candidates will be established for future temporary employment in the same professional category. This pool will comprise applicants who successfully complete the selection process but do not secure one of the permanent or permanent intermittent positions.
The selection process for permanent positions will follow a merit-based competition (concurso-oposición), while for permanent intermittent positions, it will be an opposition-based examination (oposición). The examination phase will be common for both types of contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring the security of artworks and visitors in assigned exhibition rooms, facilitating a smooth visitor experience.
- Enforcing museum regulations.
- Assisting visitors with information regarding artwork locations, services, entrances, and exits.
- Providing support to visitors with special needs (e.g., disabilities, children, elderly).
- Managing timed entry and capacity control for temporary exhibitions when required.
- Contributing to efficient visitor flow, preventing overcrowding, and monitoring room capacities.
- Performing room evacuation before closing and during emergencies.
- Participating in First Intervention and Evacuation Teams.
- Verifying the inventory of artworks in assigned rooms before opening and at shift changes.
- Reporting any facility anomalies or incidents affecting services or visitor experience to the Concierge.
Requirements
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following requirements by the application deadline and maintain them until contract formalization:
- Nationality: Spanish, an EU member state, or a state where free movement of workers applies under EU treaties ratified by Spain. Spouses and descendants (under 21 or dependents) of Spanish or EU citizens are also eligible, as well as legal residents in Spain not covered by the above.
- Age: Must be at least 16 years old and not exceed the compulsory retirement age.
- Education: Possess a Compulsory Secondary Education Certificate (ESO), Vocational Training Technician qualification, or an equivalent degree. Foreign qualifications require official validation or an equivalence certificate, unless professional qualification has been recognized under EU law.
- Disability (for reserved quota only): Hold a recognized disability of 33% or more, excluding intellectual disability, in accordance with Royal Decree 651/2025 (Public Employment Offer 2025).
- Functional Capacity: Possess the necessary physical and mental aptitude to perform the job tasks.
- Record: Not have been dismissed through disciplinary action from any Public Administration or be disqualified from holding public office. Non-Spanish applicants must also confirm they are not disqualified or sanctioned in a similar manner in their home country.
Application Submission
Interested candidates must complete the application form (Annex 4 of the terms) indicating whether they are applying for the general quota or the reserved quota for individuals with disabilities. Applications that do not specify an option or select both will be rejected.

Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications is 15 working days from the day following the publication of the call on the museum’s website, concluding on April 21, 2026.
Contract Conditions
The contracts offered are for permanent staff and permanent intermittent staff.
Gross Remuneration
- Permanent positions: 27,297.15 euros annually.
- Permanent intermittent positions: 2,019.68 euros gross per month.
