¿Qué es READ Madrid?
READ Madrid es un festival de libros e ideas que tendrá lugar en la capital española, coorganizado por el Museo Reina Sofía y READ. Su propósito es crear un espacio de encuentro para voces críticas y experimentales en los campos de la literatura, la teoría y la edición, promoviendo el debate y la reflexión.
Objetivos del Festival
El festival busca expandir y descentralizar los paradigmas hegemónicos de producción del saber, así como generar nuevas comunidades de interpretación en la producción artística y editorial. Por ello, se prestará especial atención a los proyectos autónomos y a la relación con Latinoamérica.
Formato y Enfoque
La escritura y la lectura serán exploradas de manera amplia y diversa en sus modos, formas y registros, entendiéndolas como actividades configuradoras de un laboratorio o estudio público. Este espacio estará dedicado a la reflexión colectiva, el debate, la concepción y deconstrucción de ideas, y la articulación de nuevos imaginarios y formas de expresión.
En el actual contexto internacional, el festival programará encuentros diseñados para reconfigurar los términos del debate cultural. Así, el programa se concibe como una intervención en las condiciones contemporáneas de circulación y legitimación del pensamiento y la creación, ensanchando los límites tradicionales del libro y vinculando la literatura con las artes visuales, la performance y el pensamiento crítico.
Ejes Temáticos
La programación se estructurará en torno a tres ejes principales:
- Lo popular minoritario: Explorará cómo activar una práctica de lo popular que no niegue la emancipación individual.
- Paz rabiosa: Abordará cómo mantener la justicia, el duelo y la reparación sin evadir los terrenos de conflicto.
- Ficción frente a olvido: Analizará el papel de la ciencia ficción, el terror y las narrativas especulativas ante el olvido.
Fechas y Ubicación
El festival se desarrollará el 17 de abril de 2026, a partir de las 17:00 horas, y el 18 de abril de 2026, desde las 10:30 horas. Las actividades se llevarán a cabo en el Auditorio 400 y la Sala de Protocolo del Edificio Nouvel del Museo Reina Sofía.

What is READ Madrid?
READ Madrid is a festival of books and ideas scheduled to take place in the Spanish capital, co-organized by the Museo Reina Sofía and READ. Its purpose is to create a meeting point for critical and experimental voices in the fields of literature, theory, and publishing, fostering debate and reflection.
Festival Objectives
The festival aims to expand and decentralize hegemonic paradigms of knowledge production, as well as to generate new communities for interpreting artistic and editorial output. Special emphasis will be placed on autonomous projects and the relationship with Latin America.
Format and Approach
Writing and reading will be explored extensively and diversely in their modes, forms, and registers, understood as fundamental activities for a public laboratory or studio. This space will be dedicated to collective reflection, debate, the conception and deconstruction of ideas, and the articulation of new imaginaries and forms of expression.
In the current international context, the festival will program encounters designed to reconfigure the terms of cultural debate. Thus, the program is conceived as an intervention in the contemporary conditions for the circulation and legitimization of thought and creation, broadening the traditional boundaries of the book and linking literature with visual arts, performance, and critical thought.
Thematic Pillars
The program will be structured around three main pillars:
- Minority Popular Culture (Lo popular minoritario): Will explore how to activate a popular practice that does not deny individual emancipation.
- Fierce Peace (Paz rabiosa): Will address how to sustain justice, grief, and reparation without avoiding areas of conflict.
- Fiction Against Oblivion (Ficción frente a olvido): Will analyze the role of science fiction, horror, and speculative narratives in confronting oblivion.
Dates and Location
The festival will take place on April 17, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM, and April 18, 2026, from 10:30 AM. Activities will be held in Auditorium 400 and the Protocol Room of the Nouvel Building at the Museo Reina Sofía.
