Rund 7000 Ärztinnen und Ärzte syrischer Herkunft sind derzeit in Deutschland tätig. Bislang gingen sie davon aus, einen wichtigen und wertvollen Beitrag zum Gesundheitssystem zu leisten. Diese Wahrnehmung änderte sich jedoch drastisch, nachdem der Bundeskanzler die Erwartung äußerte, dass 80 Prozent der Geflüchteten in ihre Heimat zurückkehren sollten.
Syrian Doctors in Germany: “Now I feel like a foreign body again”
Approximately 7,000 doctors of Syrian origin currently work in Germany. Up until now, they believed they were making a significant and valuable contribution to the healthcare system. However, this perception drastically changed after the Federal Chancellor expressed the expectation that 80 percent of refugees should return to their home country.
