Hundreds of emergency personnel have been engaged in combating a forest fire near Ottweiler in the Neunkirchen district since the afternoon. According to current assessments, a maximum of approximately ten hectares are affected, as stated by the Saarland Ministry of the Interior. "The operation is particularly strenuous at 33 degrees Celsius with significant smoke development." Four emergency responders were injured and are receiving medical attention for smoke and heat-related issues.

As a precautionary measure, a restaurant and a mobile home park were evacuated. On the flanks of the fire, adjacent to residential areas, units from the St. Wendel district are securing an area with its own water supply.

Andreas Kuhn, spokesperson for the Neunkirchen district fire departments, reported that forces from the fire brigade and civil protection from multiple districts are involved. The further spread of the forest fire has reportedly been halted. "The operation will likely keep the forces occupied for a considerable time," Kuhn added.

The public is strongly urged to continue to avoid the affected area extensively and to keep access and rescue routes absolutely clear. "The fire department requests that people refrain from traveling to or staying in the operational area," it was stated.
